The escape came on the night of the Crimson Moon Festival, when the clan's compound was attacked by forces of the Abyss seeking to claim the Ninjutsu for themselves. In the chaos, Hanabi made a choice that the clan's laws had never anticipated: she fought back. Not as a vessel. Not as a weapon. As herself.

The Ninjutsu of a Hundred Blossoms erupted from her in a cascade of explosive needles and firework light that lit the night sky for miles. The attackers fled. The compound was saved. And Hanabi, standing in the aftermath with her clan's laws in ruins around her, walked through the gate she had never been permitted to approach.
